Description
When raising a Volvo 240, in combination with the original wishbones, you will have positive camber and you may find that the steering ball will pinch at maximum rebound.
To solve this, we have taken the design of the Volvo 240 kingpins and modified them so that they are 50mm longer (per side) and at a different angle than original. Our spacers use Febi or MOOG Volvo 740/940 ball joints and are 12mm thick!
After installing the trackwidth spacers and steering rod spacers, it is possible to get the camber back to 0 degrees or even a few degrees negative.
Please note that these spacers have been developed based on the Volvo 240 ball joints with power steering. The ball joints of a Volvo 240 without power steering are identical on the left and right, while a Volvo 240 with power steering has a left and right version. So during disassembly, look carefully at the disassembled steering ball and the included spacer.
The advantage of this geometry is that they are better for caster adjustment.
Set contents:
- 2x Trackwidth Spacers Volvo 240 (12mm thick untreated steel)
- 2x Handlebar spacers
- 2x Moog or Febi Suspension Ball
- Mounting material for the kingpins
Assembly:
Mounting the trackwidth spacers is quite easy. Still, there are some important steps to ensure a good fit.
- Remove the old Volvo 240 ball joint and install the new supplied Moog or Febi ball joint. Then shorten the upper part of the steering ball where there is no thread with a grinder.
This ensures that the steering ball will not press into the bottom of the PU spacers of the shock absorber. Another option is to use a drill bit, drill a hole about 15-20mm deep at the bottom of the spacer that is in the strut. - Next, mount the stub axle ball to the spacer with the bolts provided.
- Install the steering rod / steering ball spacer. Use locktite for this if necessary between the spacer and the steering ball, this part does not need to be loosened during alignment.
- Adjust the armature plate/dust plate behind the brake disc with a hammer or tire spoon so that it does not hit or barely hits the steering ball at maximum steering angle.
- Make sure all nuts and bolts are properly checked and have the Volvo 240 aligned at a specialist.
Keep in mind that these spacers put more stress on the wishbones because they increase the track width by about 10cm. Like our elevator kits, these are for off-road use only.
