Replace rubber buttons Volvo key remote control
Car keys are used daily and are therefore subject to wear and tear. If you have just bought a new occasion Volvo which looks tip top but has a worn set of rubber knobs it can really detract from the experience of your new car.
Not to worry! I'll show you how to replace the rubber knobs within minutes and the key will look like new again.
Supplies to replace the rubber buttons of the remote control key
To replace the rubber knobs on your Volvo key, you will need the following items:
- New rubber buttons
- Small screwdriver
- Thin knife
- Possibly nail clippers
Step 1: Remove the physical Volvo key from the remote control
On the back of the remote control housing is a slider which must be pulled to the left to remove the physical Volvo key.

Step 2: Using a small screwdriver, push the lid open
After removing the physical key, an opening is created. Through this opening, the cover on the back of the key can be pushed off with a small screwdriver.

Step 3: Remove the lid
The lid of the housing can now be taken off very easily with a thin knife (e.g. a paring knife).

Step 4: Remove the transmitter from the key housing and rubber buttons
The circuit board which is now visible is the brain (transmitter) of the key. Therefore, handle this with care.
This transmitter can be easily taken out by turning the Volvo key and pressing the rubber buttons. If all goes well, the transmitter now detaches from the housing.

Finally, also remove the rubber knobs from the Volvo key housing. The buttons can be easily pushed out.

Step 5: Compare the new rubber knobs with the old ones on your Volvo key
Before installing the new rubber knobs, it is advisable to put the old and new ones side by side and compare them.

As shown above, the new rubber has a row of 3 at the bottom instead of 1. This may vary from key to key. By carefully cutting off the outer 2 with nail scissors, you make both rubbers identical and the assembly can be reassembled.
Step 6: Reassemble and test Volvo key
Finally, everything can be put back together in the reverse order and you can enjoy a beautiful Volvo key with new knobs for many years to come.

Finally, walk over to your beautiful Volvo to test that all the functions of the key are still working properly.
