A common problem with the Mazda MX-5 NB is that the front chassis beams rust due to their 2 layers of steel where water gets between them.

From the outside, the chassis beams often appear to be in pretty good shape but as soon as you tap them with a hammer they often go right through. This is obviously a MOT rejection point and also a thing in terms of safety. You can read the full story regarding this problem in our blog post on rusted chassis beams.

Fortunately, this problem is easily addressed by grinding away all the rust and the parts where 2 layers of steel were used and then welding in our repair panels. These are made of 1 layer of steel which is 2mm thick. This same design also uses the 1st generation MX-5 which therefore does not suffer from the rust in these areas.
