An air filter keeps dirt out of the engine and also determines how easily air is drawn in. Contaminated filters can noticeably limit power and responsiveness.

Pay attention to the filter shape, connection, replacement interval, and whether it is a panel filter or an open filter. A sports filter works best when warm engine compartment air is avoided as much as possible.

For reusable filters, also check the correct cleaning and oiling process.
