A fuel pump must deliver sufficient flow at the pressure required by the engine. With turbo upgrades, ethanol fuel, or increased power, this becomes critical faster than with a standard engine.

When choosing, consider capacity, in-tank or external mounting, connection, and whether the pump fits the original housing. An oversized pump without proper regulation can also cause problems.
