Suitable for

  • 240

When lifting a Volvo 240, you will have positive camber in combination with the original control arms, and the ball joint may bind at maximum suspension extension.

To solve this, we have adopted the design of the Volvo 240 ball joints and modified them so that they are 50mm longer (per side) and at a different angle than original. Our spacers use Febi or MOOG Volvo 740/940 ball joints and are a hefty 12mm thick!

After installing the track width spacers and tie rod end spacers, it is possible to get the camber back to 0 degrees or even a few degrees negative.

Please note that these spacers were developed based on Volvo 240 ball joints with power steering. The ball joints of a Volvo 240 without power steering are identical on the left and right; in a Volvo 240 with power steering, there is a left and a right. So, during disassembly, carefully check the removed ball joint and the supplied spacer.

The advantage of this geometry is that they are better for caster adjustment.

Set contents:

  • 2x Track Width Spacers Volvo 240 (12mm thick untreated steel)
  • 2x Tie Rod End Spacers
  • 2x Moog or Febi Ball Joint
  • Mounting hardware for the ball joints

Installation:

Installing the track width spacers is quite simple. Nevertheless, there are a number of important steps to ensure a good fit.

  1. Remove the old Volvo 240 ball joint and install the new supplied Moog or Febi ball joint. Then shorten the upper part of the ball joint where there is no thread with an angle grinder.

This ensures that the ball joint does not press into the bottom of the PU spacers of the shock absorber. Another option is to drill a hole of approximately 15-20mm deep into the bottom of the spacer located in the strut with a drill.
  2. Then mount the ball joint to the spacer with the supplied bolts.
  3. Install the tie rod / tie rod end spacer. If necessary, use Loctite between the spacer and the tie rod end; this part does not need to be removed during alignment.
  4. Adjust the anchor plate / dust shield behind the brake disc with a hammer or tire lever so that it does not or barely touches the ball joint at maximum steering angle.
  5. Ensure all bolts and nuts are properly tightened and have the Volvo 240 aligned by a specialist.

Please note that these spacers place more stress on the control arms as they increase the track width by approximately 10cm. Like our lift kits, these are for off-road use only.
