A common problem with the Mazda MX-5 NB is that the front chassis beams rust due to their 2 layers of steel where water can get in between.

From the outside, the chassis rails often look reasonably sound, but if you tap them with a hammer, you'll often go right through them. This is, of course, a MOT failure point and also a safety issue. You can read the full story about this problem in our blog post about rusty chassis rails .

Fortunately, this problem can be easily addressed by grinding away all the rust and the areas where two layers of steel were used, and then welding in our repair panels. These are made of a single layer of steel, 2mm thick. This same design is used on the first-generation MX-5, which is also not affected by rust in these areas.
